          LARAMIE -- Jay Sawvel said he planned to have an offensive coordinator hired by the weekend.

          Mission accomplished.

          Jay Johnson, who spent the previous four seasons as play caller and quarterbacks coach at Michigan State, will reportedly lead Wyoming's offense, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.

          Sawvel and Johnson were on the same staff at Minnesota in 2016.

          Johnson, 54, will replace Tim Polasek, who accepted the head coaching position at North Dakota State last month after spending the previous three seasons in Laramie.

          In 2021, Johnson was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation's top assistant.

          MSU's offense averaged 31.8 points per game that season to go along with 429.3 yards per outing. The Spartans, who ranked third in the Big Ten in overall offense, threw for 3,298 yards and added 2,283 more on the ground.
